Wow! Something tells me that this guy can sell ice to Eskimos. In this article from the Wall Street Journal, Derek Kernus sold $32,000 worth of Cutco in one summer! This guy is a sales machine! Now, some might argue that the Cutco knives sell themselves and all this guy has to do is show up. Well it may be true that the knives sell themselves, but it is way more than just showing up, this guy had to somehow talk all those people into meeting with him before he could even show them the product. That’s the hard part. Way to go Derek!
Maybe we could get Derek to give us some insight into Cutco here? Derek, if you happen to read this we would love to have you guest write a few posts for us and give us some insight on what makes Cutco Knives so great.
I saw a Cutco demo last March and the guy was doing a great job selling them. He asked me if I had knives at home and I said yes. He asked if I knew what brand I owned and I said Henkle – professional grade. He lost his smile and said well these aren’t that good but they are cheaper.
I used be a sales rep for Cutco the summer before college, and I believe it’s a combination of the two: the knives and how they’re presented to the customer. You have to offer to make them a sandwich, slice a tomato, cut through rope just to show them HOW good the knives actually are. Selling Cutco was my first job ever and definitely my most memorable.
